The head of the federal political committee of the Yabloko party, Grigory Yavlinsky, said in an interview with RBC that at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he proposed his candidacy as a mediator in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Yavlinsky noted that he was ready to play the role of a mediator, emphasizing the need to prioritize reaching an agreement on a ceasefire.
According to Yavlinsky, negotiations on subsequent issues will be complex and lengthy, with the possibility of breakdowns and resumptions. He emphasized that technical aspects would arise in the process, such as the “separation of troops,” the establishment of a demarcation line, and issues of control by international forces.
Yavlinsky also noted that President Putin did not give a specific answer to his proposal, but asked serious clarifying questions. He described the meeting as a deep and long conversation.
The meeting between Grigory Yavlinsky and Vladimir Putin became known from Kommersant correspondent Andrei Kolesnikov, who noted that it took place on the evening of October 25 after the meeting of the president with the leaders of religious associations. The Yabloko press service later reported that the military operation in Ukraine and the state of the Russian economy were discussed at the meeting.
