Bulgaria said that Lukoil does not violate EU laws

The Lukoil company does not violate either Bulgarian legislation, European Union norms or customs regulations, the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA) reports, citing the country’s Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov.
The Prime Minister emphasized that current checks have not revealed any violations by Lukoil in relation to EU regulations, Bulgarian laws or customs regulations.
Denkov assured that if violations are detected in the company’s activities, the Bulgarian government will provide relevant information to the public.
Earlier, as part of antimonopoly measures, Bulgaria approved a ban on the use of Russian oil by Lukoil Neftochim in Burgas from March 2024. From January 1, 2024, export quotas will also be abolished, and the exception for the refining of Russian oil will be completely canceled from March 1.
The Lukoil Neftochim oil refinery in Burgas warned of a possible suspension of production due to the abolition of quotas for the export of petroleum products. It should be noted that in 2022, EU leaders agreed on the introduction of a partial oil embargo against Russia, while Bulgaria was granted a temporary exception to process Russian oil arriving by sea until the end of 2024.
