British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace may leave government in autumn informs The Times, citing sources.
According to the newspaper, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is preparing for a government reshuffle ahead of the election. Wallace believes his time as secretary of defense is “coming to an end” and is considering leaving politics, the newspaper writes.
Among the possible candidates for the post of secretary of defense are the Deputy Treasury Secretary for Economic Affairs John Glen, Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs Tom Tugendhat and Deputy Foreign Minister for Indo-Pacific Affairs Anne-Marie Trevelyan, The Times notes.
Earlier, The New York Times (NYT) wrote that Wallace was among the contenders for the post of NATO Secretary General. However, later it became known that the British minister had excluded his candidacy from this race, referring to the fact that Washington would like to keep Jens Stoltenberg in office. In early July, the current secretary general of the alliance confirmed that he would remain in his post until October 1, 2024.
