AP: US presidential candidate Nikki Haley spoke about the desire to form an alliance with Russia
Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, one of the US presidential candidates, let slip her desire to make an alliance with Russia, but her campaign headquarters said the politician made a mistake, reports the Associated Press.
Haley is now a candidate for the Republican Party, in the past she is the US Permanent Representative to the UN.
In an interview with WMUR-TV, Haley spoke of the need to unite with “non-European countries, including Russia” to strengthen global security.
“You see that Saudi Arabia is making deals with China, and this is not good for us,” the politician said.
She added: “We need them to be with us, and so we need to unite with others – Russia, Australia, Japan, Israel.”
However, on Saturday, Nikki Haley’s campaign headquarters issued a statement that she, having mentioned Russia, simply “misspoke.”
The candidate’s spokesman, Ken Farnaso, said it sounded “fun” because “no one has been tougher on Russia than Nikki Haley.”
