Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Sochi, will offer Ankara’s mediation to resolve the situation in Ukraine. About it writes Milliyet newspaper.
According to the publication, one of the topics of the conversation will be the start of peace talks on the Ukrainian conflict. During the meeting, according to Milliyet, Erdogan will announce that he is ready to take on the role of a mediator, including in conducting direct negotiations, to ensure peace between the parties to the conflict.
Other topics for discussion will be the grain deal, energy, in particular, gas supplies to Europe through Turkey, and cooperation between the two countries on combating terrorism, the newspaper writes.
September 4 in Sochi will take place meeting of Russian and Turkish Presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which will discuss, among other things, the settlement of the situation in Ukraine and the extension of the grain deal.
The Russian authorities have previously pointed out the impossibility of negotiations with Ukraine due to Kyiv’s refusal at the legislative level to dialogue with Moscow. At the end of July, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia remains open to negotiations, which, according to him, cannot be said about Ukraine. As the Kremlin spokesman noted, Kyiv maintains an “irreconcilable position”, even being “in a rather difficult situation.”
