The administration of US President Joe Biden plans to announce sanctions against five Turkish companies and a Turkish citizen for allegedly supporting Russia in circumventing economic restrictions. About it reported Reuters agency citing a senior representative of the US Treasury.
The sanctions list includes shipping and trading companies. The United States accuses them of providing repair services to ships associated with the Russian Ministry of Defense. The White House also believes that these organizations assisted in the transfer of “dual-use goods.” According to the agency, the legal entities Margiana Insaat Dis Ticaret, Demirci Bilisim Ticaret Sanayi, ID Ship Agency and CTL Limited were sanctioned.
“Over the past 18 months, we have shared our concerns with the Turkish government and the private sector <...>. This decision reflects our ongoing commitment to prosecuting individuals and entities that provide material support to sanctioned entities,” the U.S. Treasury official said.
The official added that the new sanctions will be part of a larger package of restrictions that the United States plans to impose on more than 150 organizations.
On the possible introduction of penalties for companies that allegedly support Russia in circumventing sanctions, talked and in the European Union. In the summer, the European Council announced the creation of a phased mechanism of restrictions against “third countries”, which, according to the EU, help deliver sanctioned technologies and goods, including dual-use ones, into the country.
