Media: The European Union is unlikely to supply Ukraine with the million shells promised by March

The European Union informed member countries that it is unlikely to fulfill its promise to provide Kyiv with 1 million shells by March 2024. This is reported by Bloomberg with reference to sources.

Supply was to be made from existing stocks and then through joint procurement and increased production capacity. The agency notes that the EU’s unfulfilled promise will complicate Kyiv’s ability to keep up with Russian production. So far, only 30% of the promised volume has been delivered. The issue of further supplies is planned to be discussed at a meeting of EU defense ministers next week, Bloomberg clarifies.

At the end of October, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal announced a global shortage of ammunition.

“We have a huge shortage of ammunition not only in Ukraine, but throughout the world. We understand that we must produce them here in Ukraine, because all over the world they have run out, stocks have been depleted. All warehouses are empty,” noted Shmygal.

October 26th became knownthat Denmark will send military equipment worth DKK 3.7 billion (about $522.09 million) to Ukraine. The XIII assistance package includes artillery, BMP-2, T-72EA tanks and armored engineering recovery vehicles.

Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv and pointed to the growing direct and indirect involvement of Western countries in the conflict in Ukraine. Moscow pointed to an attempt by the West to prolong the conflict by supplying arms to Ukraine.
