Media: the American military-industrial complex will be enriched by the conflict in Ukraine

The US military-industrial complex will profit long-term from the conflict in Ukraine, writes Responsible Statecraft.
As noted, US Republican Senators this week proposed amendments to the Fiscal Year 2023 National Defense Appropriations Act. The material indicates that this amendment, if passed, will give the Pentagon wartime powers and allow it to purchase huge amounts of artillery and other ammunition using multi-year contracts.
The Pentagon will also be able to eliminate competitive contracting and remove other provisions that curb price gouging by arms manufacturers.
According to Defense News, the move will allow contractors to sell far more weapons than Ukraine needs, and lawmakers and defense contractors are using Ukraine to make big arms deals. The material notes that the proposed amendment includes weapons that Ukraine did not even request, such as advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles AIM-120.
As Mark Kanchian, an expert at the American Center for Strategic and International Studies, noted, the weapons covered by the amendment are intended for a future major ground war in the future, and the proposed list would be different for a conflict with China.
In September, Deputy Director of the US Agency for Security and Defense Cooperation Jed Royal said that the US intends to bring more weapons to the world market. Currently, the Pentagon is working to simplify the principles of selling weapons to partners.
