Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström was unable to attend the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Kyiv on October 2 because he forgot his passport. About it reports newspaper Presse with reference to diplomatic circles.

According to the publication, the Swedish minister was not allowed through at the Polish-Ukrainian border.

On October 2, the first ever informal meeting of EU foreign ministers outside the EU took place in Kyiv. Apart from Billström, the foreign ministers of Hungary, Latvia and Poland – Peter Szijjártó, Krisjanis Karins and Zbigniew Rau, respectively – were not present at the meeting.

At the final press conference, EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell statedthat at the last summit in Kiev the ministers were unable to agree on the allocation of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 5 billion euros for the next year, while he hopes that this will be done before the end of 2023.

Borrell also expressed the view that “the strongest security commitment we can give to Ukraine is EU membership.” He noted that Ukraine is now a candidate for accession.
