Media: Russian drones knocked out two rare Strv 122 tanks in Ukraine

Russian drones in the special operation zone knocked out two of the ten rare Strv 122 tanks, which are perhaps the best tanks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, writes Forbes.
The Strv 122 tanks, a Swedish modernization of the German Leopard 2A5, belonged to the 21st Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Russian drones allegedly struck them 10 miles west of Svatovo in the DPR this week, on September 22, “or earlier.”
The Ukrainian Armed Forces may try to return the tanks and repair them, the material says. According to Forbes, Sweden transferred weapons to Kyiv over the winter as part of a larger military aid package that also included CV90 infantry fighting vehicles and Archer howitzers. So far there are no plans to replace the damaged tanks, since Sweden intends to first meet the needs of its own army, the publication writes. Swedish Army commander Jonny Lindfors is noted to be “inclined to keep the hundred or so Strv 122s in Sweden until the army can purchase new tanks.”
“The damaged Strv 122 may be repairable. But even so, it will take time to repair them and return them to service. To complete deep repairs, the Ukrainians may even have to send the tanks to a warehouse in Poland,” the article says.
In the summer, servicemen of the Russian army for the first time captured Swedish infantry fighting vehicle CV90 during the battle in the Krasnoliman direction. The damaged BMP was later delivered to the rear; it became the first such trophy. In early August, a captured CV-90 examined Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. As the commander of the group of troops, Lieutenant General Andrei Mordvichev, said at the time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces do not have spare parts and tools for Western armored vehicles to quickly repair them in combat conditions. Other shortcomings he highlighted include the armored vehicle’s low rate of fire, the lack of a guided weapon system, and “low survivability due to its high silhouette.”
On July 28, it was reported that the Russian military captured a French wheeled tank AMX-10 RC in “almost perfect” condition in the Zaporozhye region.
