Media: Polish carriers block border crossings on the border with Ukraine

Several dozen Polish carriers began to block Polish-Ukrainian border crossings, the protest is related to competition with Ukrainian carriers, reports radio station RMF FM.

On November 6, after 12:00, drivers began to block three Polish-Ukrainian border crossings in Grebenna, Dorohusk and Korczowa. The protesters demand the introduction of permits for Ukrainian carriers and increase their number to the level that was recorded before the start of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. According to organizers, there should be between 20 and 50 trucks at each border crossing. The protest is expected to last until January 3, the radio station writes.

President of the Association of Polish Employers for Transport and Logistics Maciej Wronski said that the republic has now completely ceded the transportation market to Ukraine. In his opinion, the authorities should have supported carriers who had lost their source of income due to the current situation.

“If such actions had been taken, desperate entrepreneurs would not have blocked the Ukrainian borders,” Vronsky said.

Previously, the Association of Automobile Manufacturers of Ukraine “Ukravtoprom” warnedthat Polish carriers may go on strike in November and close checkpoints on the Ukrainian border. The reason for the protest was the increased competition “after the liberalization of transportation conditions between Ukraine and the countries of the European Union.”
