Media: Kazakhstan extradited a Russian citizen to Thailand

The Kazakh authorities handed over to Thai law enforcement officers a Russian citizen who was suspected of extortion, RIA Novosti reports citing the Bangkok Post newspaper.

The above-mentioned citizen is reportedly suspected of having, acting as part of an organized criminal group, extorted a large sum of cryptocurrency from a Russian family. The events took place in September 2022 on the Thai island of Koh Samui.

The name and age of the person handed over by the Thai authorities is given – this is 43-year-old Danil Ugai. All of his accomplices had already been detained back in 2022. The attackers reportedly extorted 1.8 million Thai baht (about $51.5 thousand) from the Russians. The victims were engaged in real estate business in Thailand.

The above-mentioned Russian was put on the international wanted list by the central bureau of Interpol in Thailand. Currently, the detainee has been brought to Thailand from Kazakhstan and is in prison, the report says.
