Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida spent the night from Thursday to Friday not at his residence, but at a hotel, RIA Novosti reports, citing Deputy Secretary General of the Government Hiroshi Moriya.
The reasons for the incident are not explained, but earlier in the day Kishida held a meeting at his residence. Kyodo Agency notes that it is difficult to find an explanation for what happened.
At the same time, Moria called the measure temporary and said that the country’s leader would return to his residence the very next day. It was later learned that there was “equipment malfunction” at the residence, but authorities declined to comment “for security reasons.”
