The UK Home Office is changing the date of birth of minor refugees arriving in the country who are trying to enter England unaccompanied by adults – in order to send them to the migration center for adults, the Observer writes.
Experts told the publication that Home Office officials are “ignoring or lowering” the year of birth in the documents of young refugees, sending them to the migration center in Manston, where they are kept for weeks in unsafe conditions for children.
This became known from the conversations of the publication with 16 refugees who left the migration center. From their stories, it became clear that the Ministry of Internal Affairs changed the dates of birth even for those who presented documents proving that they were not yet 18 years old.
One of the refugees reported being attacked by adults at the Manston centre.
Earlier it was reported that the migration center in Manston, which is designed to accommodate 1,600 migrants, contains four thousand refugees. There were recorded serious violations of sanitary conditions, cases of infection with diphtheria and Staphylococcus aureus.
Illegal migrants are attracted to the UK by a social program, as well as the possibility of obtaining refugee status and cash benefits.
