Media: General Lapin headed the main headquarters of the ground forces

Until the end of October 2022, Lapin was the commander of the Center group of Russian troops in Ukraine. On October 29, the media reported that he was suspended from this position. The reasons were not specified.
On October 1, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, after the withdrawal of Russian troops from Krasny Liman urged apply more drastic measures within the framework of the special operation. He also criticized the actions of Lapin, who, according to Kadyrov, did not provide the fighters in the Liman direction with “the necessary communications, interaction and the supply of ammunition.” According to the head of Chechnya, a week later, Lapin decided to move his headquarters to Starobelsk, “a hundred kilometers from his subordinates, while he himself is holed up in Lugansk.”
The Ministry of Defense reported on the capture of Krasny Liman at the end of May, but on October 1, the department acknowledged the loss of Krasny Liman in the DPR. The Ministry of Defense explained that the decision to withdraw allied troops from the city “to more advantageous lines” was made in connection with the creation of a threat of encirclement.
Lapin was born in 1964 in Kazan. In 2017, he headed the headquarters of the group of Russian troops in Syria, in November of the same year he was appointed head of the command of the Central Military District. July 4, 2022 Lapin was honored title of Hero of Russia “for courage and heroism”.
