Media: foreigners were detained in Slovenia on suspicion of spying for Russia

The Slovenian Intelligence and Security Agency (Sova) has detained two foreigners who are suspected of spying for Russia. This was reported by the Delo newspaper, citing unofficial data from law enforcement agencies.

The suspects were detained in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana. According to the newspaper, foreigners have the citizenship of one of the South American countries. At least one of them is an Argentine citizen, Delo claims. The publication writes that the detainees allegedly acted under false names, they were arrested in a rented office in Ljubljana.

The pre-trial investigation against the suspects was opened by the Ljubljana Prosecutor’s Office in December 2022 on the proposal of the Slovenian intelligence service. According to the investigation, the detainees worked for Russian military intelligence.

Portal 24ur clarifiesthat the suspects face a total of up to 8 years in prison: from 6 months to 5 years for espionage and up to 3 years for providing false information. No details about the detainees were given.

Earlier, on January 26, a suspect in the case of spying for Russia was detained in Germany. The Prosecutor General’s Office of Germany claims that the arrested Arthur E. is familiar with Karsten L., an employee of the Federal Intelligence Service of Germany (BND), who was arrested in December 2022. Arthur E., according to the investigation, received some data from him and then transferred them to Russian intelligence.
