Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, in an interview with the Corriere della Sera newspaper, expressed the opinion that Europe should not close itself off from the Russians, and that a difference should be made between ordinary citizens and political elites.
“Helping Ukraine, I think it would be a mistake to consider the Russian people an enemy. I have never shared the idea of not allowing artists, athletes, civilians. We need to keep the channels of dialogue open, but in relation to civil society, not political elites,” Crosetto said.
The minister also told the publication about a meeting in Moscow last week of the ambassadors of some European countries who discussed the issue of refusing to issue visas to Russians. “Why is it necessary to refuse visas to Russians, it would be good for people to come to Europe and hear the other side,” the Minister of War explained his approach.
At the same time, commenting on the information that the majority of Italian citizens are against sending weapons to the conflict zone, Guido Crosetto expressed the opinion that this is a reason to work with public opinion.
