Media: Finland will close eastern border due to intelligence warning

According to Helsingin Sanomat, the Finnish government plans to close the eastern border indefinitely from November 16 to ensure national security.
It is currently unknown whether all checkpoints will be closed or just some, and there is also no information on the duration of such measures. The decision was caused by the deterioration of the situation at the border on Wednesday.
Helsingin Sanomat sources say the government’s decision is based on information received from intelligence agencies. The authorities planned to announce such measures on Wednesday, but the date of the government meeting at which the decision was to be made was postponed.
According to independent government sources, the worsening situation on the eastern border has prompted a proposal for stricter restrictions than previously thought.
Earlier it was also reported that Finland intends to make several legislative changes aimed at banning real estate transactions for Russian citizens. In addition, simplification of the procedure for confiscation of apartments belonging to Russian citizens is being considered, given the significant amount of unclaimed real estate and the difficulties due to the lack of contact with its owners.
