Explosions occurred in Kyiv-controlled Kherson, RIA Novosti reports, citing Roman Mrochko, head of the Kherson city military administration appointed by the Ukrainian authorities.
“Explosions can be heard in the coastal areas of the city,” he wrote in his Telegram channel.
The Kherson region became part of the Russian Federation following a referendum held in September 2022. Currently, the Russian Armed Forces control 75% of the territory of the Kherson region, the remaining part on the right bank of the Dnieper, including Kherson, is controlled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Russian army began striking the infrastructure of Ukraine on October 10, in response to the terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge. Strikes are carried out only on military targets, as well as energy facilities. During this time, air raid alerts in areas controlled by Kyiv are announced virtually every day, and periodically this happens throughout the country.
Jack Watling, a researcher at the British Royal United Defense Studies Institute (RUSI), said that attacks on critical infrastructure will make the winter very difficult for Ukraine. In his opinion, strikes by the Russian Armed Forces against critical infrastructure facilities pose a strategic threat to the Kyiv regime. Watling called on Ukraine to “prepare for a difficult winter.”
