The former head of the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mariusz Kaminski, and his deputy, Maciej Wonsik, were detained by police at the presidential palace in Warsaw.
As RMF24 clarifies, they arrived there at the invitation of President Andrzej Duda, who was absent at the time of the arrest. Kaminski and Wonsik did not resist; they were detained in accordance with the court decision of January 9.
In 2015, Kaminski and Wonsik were found guilty of fraud with land plots and corruption. However, in the same 2015, President Duda pardoned them. At the end of 2023, they were sentenced to two years in prison each and the loss of their parliamentary status in connection with the same criminal case. Deputies of the Sejm from the Law and Justice party consider the verdict to be politically motivated and illegal, demanding its cancellation. The media in Poland characterize the situation around the detention of politicians as chaos. The Law and Justice party has 194 seats in the Sejm, which includes 460 deputy seats.
