A native of Chechnya, Idris Arsamikov, who was detained this week at Domodedovo, was deprived of his temporary residence status in the Netherlands because of his trip to Chechnya, the newspaper reports. NOS. The Crisis Center “SK SOS”, which helped Mr. Arsamikov, reported that he had received official permission from the government of the Netherlands to travel to Russia for his father’s funeral. According to NOS, Dutch human rights groups hope the Dutch government will make efforts to secure his release. The head of the Dutch Foreign Ministry, Wopke Hoekstra, called on Russia to guarantee the safety of Mr. Arsamikov.
Idris Arsamikov was detained February 15 at Domodedovo when trying to leave the country. The airport police officer on duty told Kommersant that in the Chechen Republic Idris Arsamikov was put on the federal wanted list under Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud committed by a person using his official position, as well as on a large scale). According to the SK SOS crisis group, lawyers were not allowed to see Mr. Arsamikov. On February 17, he recorded a video message in which he called on human rights activists to “leave behind with your attempts to protect some of my rights”, spoke about plans to get married and announced his desire to go to the zone of military operations after his brothers. “SK SOS” does not rule out that the video was recorded under duress. The young man’s whereabouts are unknown.
