Apple has been forced to make adjustments to its production plans for the iPhone 14 Plus, which went on sale just a couple of weeks ago. According to The Information, referring to its own sources, the American company sent out new requirements for the volume of production to its contractors. As a result, one of them was forced to stop production, while the other two reduced production volumes by 70% and 90%, the newspaper writes.
Previously reportedthat Apple had to abandon the increase in production of the iPhone 14, as the demand for a new line of smartphones was not as high as the company had hoped. Instead of 96 million devices planned for the summer, the company intends to release 90 million smartphones of this model in the second half of 2022 – the same number as last year.
According to Canalys, global smartphone sales fell 9% in the third quarter, and it was the worst third quarter since 2014. Demand for smartphones, according to the company’s analysts, will not recover in the next six to nine months due to high inflation and the desire of citizens to spend money on more essential goods. According to the company, Samsung (22%), Apple (18%) and Xiaomi (14%) retained the leading positions in the global smartphone market during the reporting period.
