Media: Aliyev refused to participate in a five-way meeting with Pashinyan in Granada

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev refused to participate in a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and representatives of France, Germany and the EU, which will be held in Granada, Spain on October 5. About it reported Azerbaijani agency APA.

According to the publication, this decision was made due to the refusal to allow Turkish representatives to participate in the negotiations. It is clarified that, in particular, representatives of France and Germany spoke out against it.

Azerbaijan does not see the need to participate in the five-party meeting, at which “an anti-Azerbaijani atmosphere was formed,” APA writes. “Baku does not see the need to discuss the problems of the region with countries far from the region. Baku believes that these issues can be discussed and resolved within a regional framework,” the agency’s material says.

Earlier that Pashinyan and Aliyev could meet in Granada, September 24 reported press service of the Security Council of Armenia. The five-party meeting, which was to take place within the framework of the summit of the European Political Community, preceded negotiations between the special envoys of Armenia Armen Grigoryan and Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev, they took place on September 26 in Brussels. During the meeting, the parties agreed to take “concrete actions and decisive compromise steps” in all areas of the Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement.

On September 19, Azerbaijan announced the start of “anti-terrorist measures” necessary for the “restoration of the constitutional order” in Nagorno-Karabakh. The next day, Karabakh authorities announced the conclusion of agreements on a complete ceasefire. On September 21, negotiations were held in the Azerbaijani Yevlakh between the delegation of Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh and representatives of the Azerbaijani authorities. On September 23, Aliyev said that after the “anti-terrorist operation” in Karabakh have developed more favorable conditions for concluding a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan.
