McLaren, who investigated the doping scandal, called for the return of Russians to sports

Professor Richard McLaren, who has been investigating anti-doping rule violations in Russian sports, does not consider it fair to exclude athletes from competition, writes Sportschau.
In February, the International Olympic Committee against the backdrop of events in Ukraine recommended that international federations not allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to start. A number of federations then excluded Russians and Belarusians from competitions under their auspices. Other federations have admitted athletes from both countries, but in neutral status.
“The way they are being treated is unfair,” McLaren said. “The athletes did not start the conflict and are not responsible for its course.” He called these arguments “good reasons to allow them to compete again.” At the same time, McLaren noted, that until the situation in Ukraine is resolved, the world sports community will not change its decision.
