As part of the modernization of the Central Transport Hub, the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD) lines will reach five Russian regions. This was announced by the acting deputy mayor of the capital for transport, Maxim Liksutov.
“The program provides for the extension of all diameters if approved by the Russian government. We prepared this program together with the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, Russian Railways and the government of the Moscow region. The government must make a decision on the implementation of this program,” Mr. Liksutov said at a conference dedicated to projects of the Moscow transport complex (quote from Prime).
Extended MCD routes will provide access to Yaroslavl, Tula, Oryol, Kaluga, Ryazan and other regions. Russian President Vladimir Putin recently announced a modernization program for the entire Central Transport Hub.
In September, Moscow authorities increased free transfer interval to MCD-3 and MCD-4 from 1.5 to 2 hours, so that passengers have time to get from the last diameter stations to long-distance metro transfers. Traffic along these diameters was opened at the end of August – beginning of September.
On September 6, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin also opened traffic on the Rasskazovka-Vnukovo Airport section of the Solntsevskaya Line. Maxim Liksutov said that there are no plans to create metro stations near other Moscow airports besides Vnukovo.
