The administration of one of the districts of the Yaroslavl region refused to allow the local communists to hold a May Day demonstration, suggesting that it be postponed to another day. The authorities attribute the ban to the festive run scheduled for May 1 and the inability to ensure the safety of two events at once. The leader of the Communist Party faction in the regional Duma called this proposal absurd and did not rule out going to court. And representatives of the trade unions, who had already abandoned the May Day demonstration, advised the communists to show solidarity with the workers on the Internet.
The administration of the Tutaevsky municipal district of the Yaroslavl region did not agree on the application of the district committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation to hold a procession and rally on May 1 in connection with the celebration of the International Day of Solidarity of Workers. The district authorities sent two letters to the local communists. The first says that on May 1 in Tutaev a running half-marathon “Mir. May. Molodist” and holding two events “on partially coinciding routes” is impossible. In the second letter, the administration proposes to hold a May Day demonstration “on another day.”
The Communists were outraged by this proposal.
“It’s like postponing Easter or Epiphany. We take this offer with a smile. And where to transfer? The next days are working days, ”Alexey Shepovalov, first secretary of the Tutaevsky district committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, told Kommersant. The Tutaev communists “definitely will not postpone May Day to another day.”
The party planned that the number of participants in the procession and rally would not exceed 50 people. The communists were ready to change the route, but the administration explained that marches on May 1 were also not allowed on other streets – the cars of the race participants would be parked there. “It is impossible to simultaneously secure multiple events at the same time and almost in the same place. Therefore, another day was proposed, ”the administration of the Tutaevsky district explained to Kommersant.
Mikhail Paramonov, First Secretary of the Yaroslavl Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, called the letter from the regional administration a “caricature.” And his party comrades started talking about discrimination against the communists. “This is absurd. How can I move a date that is celebrated on this particular day? The authorities are violating the federal law on rallies. We don’t have to ask for anything, we just notify the mass event. Such actions do not make society cohesive. Why is the government not postponing its events? Some are allowed, others are forbidden. Do we have some other people with communists with some other rights? ”Elena Kuznetsova, chairman of the Communist Party faction in the Yaroslavl Regional Duma, told Kommersant, adding that she does not rule out appealing the decisions of the local administration in court.
Meanwhile, the Yaroslavl trade unions have already voluntarily abandoned the traditional marches and mass events on May 1st. The chairman of the regional Association of Trade Union Organizations, Sergei Solovyov, told Kommersant that this was done “in connection with recommendations for security purposes.”
“It is clear that the date is important, especially for the communists, but it is better to wait until next year. First of all, think about security than about political benefits on the eve of the elections (a new composition of the Yaroslavl Regional Duma will be elected in September.— “b”). I would advise the Communists to use our experience during the pandemic: we held actions on the Internet, filmed videos with hashtags and May Day frames. All this is on the Internet, you can see and use it,” Mr. Solovyov noted.
