On this day, it was customary to lay a rich table, on which there must be bread and salt. The table was supposed to be covered with a clean, preferably white, tablecloth. It was believed that this would help to preserve and increase wealth in the house.
But on the day of Fyodor Nevodnik, they tried not to approach the water without special need, so as not to disturb the waterman. So, it was forbidden to fish on this day and generally eat river and sea inhabitants. It was impossible to wash the bed linen – otherwise it would not be possible to sleep well on it later. They did not water indoor flowers and plants in the garden or vegetable garden – so as not to lose financial well-being.
In addition, according to popular signs, to put on things topsy-turvy today – to become a participant in a quarrel or fight; pass the needle from hand to hand – become the object of barbs and gossip; let the cat sleep with the children – deprive them of their health; spouses to sleep under different blankets – to a quarrel or divorce.
Folk signs on May 3 are as follows:
– if the sun is yellow at sunrise – to good weather;
– if the coltsfoot has bloomed – to warming;
– if mosquitoes appeared – it will be warm;
– if the clouds are blue – to the rain;
– if the night is clear – to frost.
Dreams that are dreamed on the night of May 4 may be prophetic. If the dream was bad, do not talk about it before sunset, otherwise it may come true.
