The Russian Ministry of Sports will make a final decision on the admission of Russian athletes to the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024 after the final recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin said on the sidelines of the Russia Forum. According to him, the IOC recommendations will appear in the near future.

“The key factors will be respect for our athletes and coaches and adherence to the Olympic Charter. The requirement of some federations to sign declarations is a violation of basic principles of equality. This is unacceptable for our athletes. In the very near future we expect the final decision and final recommendations of the IOC on participation in the Olympic Games. We will make an appropriate joint decision with the ROC and the sports community of Russia,” said Mr. Matytsin (quoted by RIA Novosti).

Earlier today, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Sports and the Olympic Committee to develop proposals for the participation of Russian athletes in the Games. According to him, sports federations need to find out under what conditions Russian athletes will go to competitions and what declarations they will be required to sign.

The Paris Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The criteria for admission to competitions, in particular, oblige Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete only individually and under a neutral flag. Athletes and personnel working with them will not be allowed to participate in the Games if they actively support the special operation in Ukraine or are members of the army or security forces of their countries. Athletes will also be required to undergo additional doping testing and sign a declaration of respect for the Olympic Charter.
