The Federation Council approved on Wednesday amendments to the law “On beekeeping in the Russian Federation.” The changes concern clarifications in the conceptual apparatus. Co-author of the law, Senator Sergei Mitin, emphasized that in Russian and interstate legislation there is still confusion with the definitions of “honey”, “honey product” and “beekeeping product”. The amendments are intended to clarify this issue.
Leapfrog with wording leads to numerous falsifications in the honey market. Earlier, Mitin noted that there is no separate technical regulation of the EAEU on honey. This negatively affects compliance with the requirements for the production, storage, transportation, sale and disposal of honey, the senator emphasized. In addition, there is a problem with accredited laboratories for testing bee products. At the same time, the senator noted that even with the latest amendments, the law on beekeeping still remains to a large extent a framework. Following the adoption of the amendments, it will be necessary to adopt a number of by-laws and interstate documents with specific rules and quality standards for the honey industry. The law will begin to work in September next year, so officials have enough time, the senator believes.
Valentina Matvienko said that the “group of honey lovers” in the upper house should continue to monitor the situation.
