Matvienko: The BRICS Parliamentary Forum will be held in St. Petersburg

The X BRICS Parliamentary Forum will be held in St. Petersburg. This was announced by the Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko in a video message to the participants of the IX BRICS Parliamentary Forum in South Africa.
“In the fall of 2024, the X BRICS Parliamentary Forum will be held in St. Petersburg in conjunction with the BRICS summit, which is planned to be held in Kazan,” said the speaker of the Federation Council.
Matvienko emphasized that the Russian BRICS chairmanship in 2024 is an honorable and responsible mission. It will be held under the motto of “strengthening multilateralism for equitable global development and security.” The program includes about 200 events, the agenda will be especially rich in the areas of healthcare and nuclear medicine, education and science, innovation and fair technology transfer, development of the digital economy and artificial intelligence, as well as the preservation and enhancement of world cultural heritage.
“We believe that within the BRICS framework it is necessary to continue to create at the legislative level all the conditions for the diversification of supply chains, de-dollarization and the transition to national currencies in mutual settlements,” Matvienko emphasized.
In January 2024, Argentina, Egypt, Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia will join the BRICS work. Matvienko called on her colleagues to provide maximum support to the six new BRICS member states.
On April 3, it became known that Russian President Vladimir Putin determined Kazan will host the BRICS summit in 2024. Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov was appointed Chairman of the organizing committee to ensure Russia’s chairmanship of BRICS.
