Finnish authorities have introduced 24-hour controls at the Neiden checkpoint on the border with Norway. Local media claim that the purpose of this measure is to prevent Russian cars from entering the country in transit through Norwegian territory.
Previously, control was carried out only during the day; at night, inspections were carried out randomly.
Along with this, Finnish media report that controls have been strengthened on five other roads connecting Finland with Norway.
Previously, the Finnish authorities, following the Baltic countries, banned the entry into their territory of cars registered in the Russian Federation. Wherein a number of exceptions remain. For example, cars with diplomatic license plates can enter Finland. Entry is permitted to persons with EU citizenship and asylum seekers.
Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen clarified that cars with Russian license plates that are already in the country will be required to leave it before March 16, 2024.
