Matvienko sees no prerequisites for peace talks on Ukraine

There are no prerequisites for a peace treaty between Russia and Ukraine. This was stated by the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko.
She noted that the conflict in Ukraine was discussed during negotiations with the Chinese side (the Federation Council delegation headed by Matvienko is in China on a working visit).
“We and China are realistic about what is happening. In order to start a peaceful dialogue, political will, political realism and independence are needed. We do not see any of this in Ukraine. Therefore, unfortunately, today there are not the slightest prerequisites for peace negotiations,” stated Matvienko, talking to reporters (TASS quote).
On July 7, Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov also declaredthat the Kremlin does not yet see prospects for the start of the negotiation process on Ukraine. He clarified that, first of all, this is due to the denial of such a possibility by Kiev and the disinclination of Washington, which has a direct influence on the leadership of Ukraine.
At the same time, on July 6, Lukashenka informedthat peace talks on Ukraine could begin in the fall. He added that Russia is ready for negotiations and it is necessary to take advantage of the moment, not to wait for the Ukrainian offensive, since “the dynamics are frantic, the development of the situation is instantaneous.”
The Kremlin has repeatedly said before that it sees no preconditions for peace talks. However, on June 20, Peskov emphasized that Russian President Vladimir Putin is open to negotiations on a Ukrainian settlement, but because of Kyiv’s position, there is no “stable ground” for them.
