Former world number one Martina Navratilova has announced that she has been diagnosed with two forms of cancer: throat and breast. It is reported by the Daily Mail.
Navratilova, 66, who won Wimbledon nine times, said she was diagnosed with an enlarged lymph node in her neck in November. Further research led to a similar diagnosis. “This double whammy is serious, but everything is fixable,” the Czech-American hopes. “I will fight with all my might.”
Back in 2010, Navratilova was reported at the time to be completely free of breast cancer after undergoing radiation therapy.
Navratilova has won 59 Grand Slam singles and doubles titles in her career.
After the announcement of the diagnosis, in order to focus on her health, she refused to go to the Australian Open, where she intended to work as a television commentator. Doctors note that both types of cancer were detected at the first stage.
