The experiment on distance selling Russian wines, which should start in November 2023, can be expanded to marketplaces. This issue was discussed at a meeting with Russian presidential aide Maxim Oreshkin, a representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade told Vedomosti. In addition to online platforms, officials decided to “work out the feasibility of involving in the experiment” and trading houses of producers of domestic wines, the source added.
The online sale of alcohol in Russia is now prohibited by law. But against the background of the general development of online trading, the proposal to allow the sale of alcoholic beverages on the Internet has been discussed for the past few years. The main difficulty is the question of confirming the age of the buyer. In the spring of 2021, “an experiment with the direct supply of Russian wine from manufacturers to consumers” was ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin, RBC reported. “One of the conditions for conducting this experiment, in the instruction of the President of the Russian Federation, is the establishment of a delivery time of at least 24 hours from the moment of order,” the representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasized.
