Malawi cancels visas for tourists from Russia

The Republic of Malawi has announced the abolition of visa requirements for citizens from 79 countries, including Russia. As stated by the President of this African country, Lazarus Chakwera, the tourism sector is the third largest source of government income in foreign currency.

The Malawian authorities expect that the abolition of the visa regime will contribute to the development of tourism and, accordingly, the influx of foreign exchange earnings into the country.

Not only Russians, but also citizens of the USA, Great Britain, France, China and dozens of other countries can now visit Malawi without obtaining a visa.

Earlier, mobile operators summed up the results of the New Year holidays and reported in which countries roaming services were most in demand. Despite the foreign policy situation, the interest of Russian tourists in Europe gradually recovering — tourist flow increased by 8.5% compared to 2023. At the same time, China records a tenfold increase in the indicator.

Meanwhile, it has become easier for Russians to obtain a visa to EU countries – tourists who applied for Schengen in 2024 share this joy in thematic chats. There is a warming at the level of ordinary citizens, they share on condition of anonymity at the Russian representative office in Brussels. They confirmed that it was has already affected the state of tourism.
