French President Emmanuel Macron stated the need to continue the dialogue with Russia, explaining that one should speak even with those “with whom we disagree.”
“We must proceed from the fact that we can always continue to talk to everyone, especially those with whom we disagree,” Macron said (quote for 20 minutes).
He noted that the situation when Turkey remains the only country that conducts a dialogue with Russia is contrary to the interests of France.
On the eve of the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov declaredthat, despite the statements of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan about Crimea, Moscow and Ankara continue to cooperate “where it is beneficial.” He noted that Russia appreciates Turkey’s efforts to resolve difficult situations. As an example, the Kremlin spokesman cited the grain issue, agreements on which were reached thanks to Turkey, among other things.
Since the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, Emmanuel Macron has repeatedly advocated negotiations with the Russian authorities. Also, at the initiative of the French side, telephone conversations between the leaders of the states took place more than once. Thus, the previous telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart took place on August 19. In particular, the heads of state discussed the military conflict in Ukraine, nuclear safety at the Zaporozhye NPP and preparations for the IAEA mission to the plant.
