Macron said he did not discuss with Zelensky the supply of aircraft to Kyiv

French President Emmanuel Macron said that at a meeting with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky he did not discuss the issue of supplying aircraft to Kyiv. He stated this upon arrival at the EU summit, which is taking place in Brussels.

“We did not discuss this issue yesterday,” Macron said, answering questions about the possibility of Paris supplying fighter jets to Kyiv (cit. according to TASS).

At the same time, the French leader confirmed his readiness to provide assistance to Ukraine. “I believe that now we need to focus on those supplies that will be useful now, and not on promises that can be realized later,” he said.

Macron, Zelensky and German Chancellor Olaf Scholitz met the day before, on February 8, in Paris. During a joint press conference, Macron said that Ukraine can count on France’s help until the conflict is resolved in favor of Kyiv.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv. In particular, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, warned that pumping Ukraine with weapons brings NATO closer to the dangerous line of a direct military clash with Russia. And Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that the supply of long-range weapons would only expand the geography of the special operation. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, in turn, named the conflict in Ukraine ascending in a spiral. Russian President Vladimir Putin last December declaredthat Western countries have turned Ukraine into a colony and use the people of this country as cannon fodder.
