Macron promised to support Uzbekistan in signing a partnership agreement with the EU

Paris will support Tashkent in signing an expanded partnership agreement with the European Union, French President Emmanuel Macron spoke about this at meeting with the leader of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Samarkand.

“France expressed its readiness to further support Uzbekistan’s efforts to strengthen confidence in Central Asia, as well as our country’s accession to the WTO and the early signing of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the European Union,” Mirziyoyev’s press service said in a statement.

During the negotiations, the parties noted a multiple increase in trade turnover between the two states and an increase in the portfolio of active and promising investment projects to 10 billion euros. Measures to promote new large projects in the areas of “green” energy, extraction and processing of raw materials, tourism, etc. were also discussed.

The presidents also agreed to accelerate the creation of an Uzbek-French university in Tashkent and welcomed the opening of a branch of the French Alliance in Samarkand. Mirziyoyev called Macron’s visit historic, and the French president, in turn, supported the ongoing reform program in the republic.

November 1 Macron arrived on an official visit to Kazakhstan, where he met with the President of the Republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. After negotiations between the leaders in a narrow format, communication continued in an expanded format with the participation of delegations from the two countries. During negotiations in a narrow format, Macron and Tokayev discussed the prospects for the Kazakh-French strategic partnership, strengthening political dialogue, as well as the development of cooperation in a number of areas, including trade, economic, energy, investment, etc.
