Macron: many countries have taken a neutral position on the conflict in Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron, at a meeting with French ambassadors, said that many countries representing “a significant part of the world’s population” take a neutral position on the situation in Ukraine. About it writes TASS.

“One should be aware that many countries have taken a neutral position. In the countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America, we are told that this is a regional conflict, the consequences of which they experience on themselves, without understanding why,” the head of state said.

He also noted that in terms of demographics, “these countries represent a significant part of the world’s population.”

The European Union, Great Britain and the United States, in response to the start of a special operation by Russia in Ukraine, imposed large-scale sanctions against the country. Many sectors of the economy fell under the restrictions, including energy, the high-tech sector, aviation, the banking industry, the mining industry, the automotive industry, etc. But the restrictive measures against Russia had a negative impact on the economies of foreign countries. The authorities of European states have repeatedly stated that the problems that have arisen are the price for Europe’s independence from Russia and its energy resources.

In particular, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz acknowledged that many Germans have faced the consequences of the sanctions policy, including rising prices for gasoline and food. However, he said that the sanctions against Russia would last as long as necessary to support Ukraine.

A similar statement was made earlier by German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock: she recognized the “suffering” of the Germans and said that the inconvenience would continue, because Germany would continue to support Ukraine, “despite everything.”
