French President Emmanuel Macron left the EU summit in Brussels and canceled a press conference following it due to unrest in Paris and other cities, transmits TV channel BFM.
The reason why Macron left the summit was the meeting of the crisis headquarters, scheduled for 13:00 local time (14:00 Moscow time). It is clarified that Macron rarely leaves EU summits without waiting for them to end.
Riots in France continue for the third day. They broke out after one of the police officers shot a 17-year-old young man with Algerian roots named Nael M. in the Parisian suburb of Nanterre, as a result of which he died. This police officer has now been arrested. According to police, the young man did not obey the traffic police order to stop.
Macron expressed his solidarity on Twitter with the family and friends of the deceased. The judiciary must establish the truth and punish those responsible, he said. Macron also said that “violence against police stations, city halls” is unjustified.
