Macron ends Central Asian tour with visit to Uzbekistan

French President Emmanuel Macron begins his state visit to Uzbekistan, which will be the final stage of his tour of the countries of Central Asia.
The visit to Uzbekistan is the first for a French leader in almost 30 years since the visit of Francois Mitterrand in 1994. At the same time, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited France twice after taking office – in 2018 and 2022.
During Mirziyoyev’s stay in Paris last November, more than twenty cooperation agreements were signed related to the development of renewable energy sources, urban management and transport. The parties also agreed to determine areas of cooperation in agriculture.
The official delegation includes about 60 businessmen.
As announced at the Elysee Palace, during the talks in Tashkent, Macron intends to focus on deepening cooperation, especially in the economic and energy spheres, and expanding the French presence in Uzbekistan, where about 30 French companies currently operate.
During this trip to Uzbekistan, the French leader is accompanied by the heads of about 60 leading enterprises, and it is planned to conclude a number of contracts in key areas of cooperation.
Last month, an intergovernmental agreement was concluded between France and Uzbekistan on the promotion and protection of investments.
The French side attaches great importance to the modernization of the water supply system in Tashkent. The French company SUEZ plans to implement the corresponding program within seven years – this is the largest-scale project implemented by a French company in partnership with the Uzbek authorities.
The French leader is traveling to Uzbekistan from Astana, where he held talks with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Wednesday. The leaders paid special attention to the development of economic relations.
The countries intend to strengthen cooperation in the field of energy transition, ecology and social development. Macron and Tokayev agreed to promote strengthening cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, industry and agriculture.
