In October 2021, relations between France and Algeria deteriorated after President Macron, according to Le Monde, declaredthat Algeria has an “official history”, which the authorities have “completely rewritten”, laying the foundation for “hatred of France”. Later, after Macron’s visit to Algeria in August 2022, relations between the countries began to improve.
