“Machine for office tasks” – Kommersant FM

Kommersant FM columnist Alexander Levi talks about the hardware content of a Tecno laptop.

The Megabook S1 model in the still small line of Tecno laptops can be classified as a premium category. And to a greater extent, this is the merit of the engineers due to the totality of overall characteristics. The 15.6-inch laptop I recently tested is quite thin and light. Its thickness is 13.5 mm, weight is 1.35 kg.

The magnesium alloy used to produce the case helped achieve such values. At the same time, the material was processed so that it feels like plastic. An unfortunate choice in terms of image, which also involuntarily raises concerns about the reliability of the design. But there is no need to worry here – magnesium alloy, despite its lightness, is ready for loads no worse than common aluminum options and is definitely better than plastic.

In terms of hardware content, the creators of Megabook S1 worked on the status. The new product has a display with an aspect ratio of 16:10, a resolution of 3.2K, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and 100% sRGB coverage. The central place in the architecture is occupied by a 12-core 12th generation Core i7 processor with active cooling, created specifically for ultrabooks.

A 1 TB PCIe 4.0 solid-state drive is responsible for storing information; operational data is processed by 16 GB of the latest generation LPDDR5 memory. Autonomy is provided by a 70 Wh battery, which is also respectable for such a form factor. The device is powered by a 65 W GaN charger.

Even without taking into account the display characteristics, possible settings, stated standards and certifications, it is easy to assess that this is a machine for office tasks, especially if the work requires consuming or somehow interacting with media. Graphic tasks, photo and video editors are within the power of the Megabook S1.

Half a dozen audio speakers and support for DTS:X Ultra, microphones with smart noise reduction, beauty, and two-megapixel selfie cameras only further emphasize the character of the laptop. But serious gaming status has not been declared for this laptop, and it is unlikely that you will be able to earn it. It would be much nicer to have a touchpad that can be pressed across the entire surface.
