Probably the lady was bitten by a mosquito infected with helminthiasis
A banal mosquito bite had unexpected and extremely unpleasant consequences for a 51-year-old resident of Lyubertsy. The woman’s cheek was swollen, and the swelling did not go away for more than three months. Turning to the doctor, the patient found out that the insect had brought a helminth larva under her skin, which turned into a worm.
As it became known to “MK”, the other day, Lyubertsy doctors removed a 12-centimeter worm from the patient’s cheek. The find came as a surprise even to the Aesculapius themselves, who did not think that such a reason could be hidden behind the swelling and itching of the cheek. At first, in the maxillofacial department, specialists suspected a benign tumor and decided to remove the thickening.
“Having made an incision under local anesthesia, we found the head of a worm in the thickness of the cheek,” said Sergey Grevtsev, head of the department of maxillofacial surgery. – There was a capsule with a helminth. His vital activity caused the inflammatory process, and his movements caused constant itching. We removed the capsule from the cheek and pulled out the worm, then stitched it up.
The doctor admitted that this is the first case in 10 years of his practice as an operating surgeon. Probably, the mosquito was infected with helminthiasis when he drank blood from an animal. After that, he bit a person and transferred the “infection” into his body.
