Russian families cannot adopt children from the LPR, DPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. As Maria Lvova-Belova, Commissioner for Children’s Rights under the President of Russia, explained, children from these regions can only be transferred to families under guardianship. Earlier, the Ombudsman reported that she had adopted a child from Mariupol.
“We have no adoption from new regions at all, in principle. We only have guardianship or a foster family so that if relatives, people who can claim this child appear there, it would be easier to do it, ”said the Ombudsman during the program. “The Church and Us”.
She clarified that the adoption of a child does not mean that in the future he will not be able to be returned to blood relatives.
On February 16, Maria Lvova-Belova told Russian President Vladimir Putin that “thanks to him” she was able to adopt child from Mariupol. She also called herself “the mother of a child from Donbass.”
