Lvova-Belova supported the refusal of private clinics to provide abortions: “Correct guidelines”

The Commissioner for Children’s Rights under the President of the Russian Federation, Maria Lvova-Belova, said that the removal of abortion procedures from the practice of private medical institutions will allow the state to more fully support women. It was previously reported that private clinics in Crimea and the Kursk region are stopping performing abortion procedures, and in Mordovia and the Tver region a law was passed on liability for inducing abortions. Possible ban abortions in private clinics may also be introduced in the Kaliningrad region.

“I see certain correct guidelines in this,” Lvova-Belova told TASS.

In her opinion, private clinics can provide services to patients without psychological consultation and “without waiting time,” which is why women, in her opinion, continue to live “completely calmly,” “not realizing what happened.” The Ombudsman assured that she is not a supporter of “categorical measures”, but believes that “we must give mom <...> assistance in self-determination.” Lvova-Belova added that it is necessary to “change the consciousness of women” so that they have an understanding of the negative consequences of abortion.

Lvova-Belova added that the regions are discussing the idea of ​​involving representatives of religious organizations in working with pregnant women.

Earlier, Lvova-Belova’s predecessor at the post of ombudsman, Anna Kuznetsova, said that Russian women should start give birth from about 20 years of ageto “have three, four or more children.”
