Lvova-Belova proposed to create a service for helping teenagers against the backdrop of an increase in suicidal attempts

Maria Lvova-Belova, Commissioner for Children’s Rights under the President of Russia, suggested that the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation create a single service to help teenagers who are “in a suicidal crisis.” IN report Ms. Belova for 2022 states that child and adolescent crisis services can be opened in every Russian subject.
According to Rosstat, which Maria Lvova-Belova cites in the report, the number of teenage suicides in Russia is declining: in 2018, 397 cases were recorded, in 2019 – 372, in 2020 – 311. At the same time, TFR data are given differently: in 2020 m – 548 cases (30.4% less than in 2018), in 2021 – 753, in 2022 – 679.
Meanwhile, “according to unofficial statistics of the TFR”, the number of suicide attempts among minors has increased in recent years. Specific data is not provided. Against this background, Marya Lvova-Belova recommended that the Ministry of Education teach psychologists and class teachers “the prevention of suicidal behavior.” Only 22 Russian subjects have developed corresponding programs.
According to the TFR, which were cited in the previous report Maria Lvova-Belova, from 2019 to 2021, the number of suicide attempts among minors increased by 13% – from 3253 to 3675 cases. The number of retries increased by 92.6% (from 188 to 362 cases).
