Roscosmos General Director Yuri Borisov said that the Russian lunar station Luna-25 crashed due to the fact that the accelerometers did not turn on and did not transmit the information necessary to turn off the engine, reports “RIA News”.

“The correction engine did not stop working based on information from the accelerometer; this is the device that shows data on changes in speed. The reason is that the accelerometers did not turn on. Why we didn’t get involved, we’re looking into it in detail now,” Mr. Borisov said at a press conference.

The general director noted that there are now 16 versions of the accident, 11 of which experts have already checked. The head of Roscosmos said that work to determine the causes of the accident is planned to be completed at the end of September. According to Mr. Borisov, he received his first words of support after the crash of Luna 25 from NASA Director Bill Nelson.
