President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko previously learned about the preparation of an assassination attempt on the founder of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin and handed over the available data to the Kremlin. The Belarusian leader spoke about this during a conversation with journalists.
“The last time we flew to the Emirates, I received very serious information from sources that cannot be deeper than the assassination attempt on Yevgeny Prigozhin,” said Lukashenko (quote according to BelTA). The visit of the Belarusian leader to the UAE took place from 25 to 30 January.
According to Lukashenka, within two hours the Russian ambassador to the UAE was summoned to see him, the diplomat was given a cipher message to the Kremlin to warn Russian President Vladimir Putin and director of the Russian FSB Alexander Bortnikov. Lukashenka then clarified that Putin had given Prigozhin information about the assassination attempt. The founder of Wagner himself informed the Belarusian leader about this.
Lukashenka also stressed that the Kremlin cannot be involved in the crash of the Embraer plane in the Tver region. “I cannot imagine that Putin did this, that Putin is to blame. Too rough, unprofessional work, for that matter. This is not like Putin,” said the President of Belarus.
Lukashenka added that Minsk maintains contact with Prigozhin’s family. According to him, they “have no doubts” that Prigozhin died.
On August 23, the Embraer plane, on board of which, according to the Federal Air Transport Agency, was Prigozhin, suffered crash in the Tver region near the village of Kuzhenkino. The plane followed the route Moscow – St. Petersburg. There were 10 people on board – seven passengers and three crew members. According to preliminary information, they all died. Upon the crash, the Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of the rules of traffic safety and operation of air transport).
