In an interview with Ukrainian journalist Diana Panchenko, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko explained why Russian President Vladimir Putin decided not to invade Kiev. According to Lukashenko, Putin did not take this step, as he was afraid of large losses among the civilian population.
Lukashenka noted that he discussed this topic with the Russian president, suggesting that he take the capital of Ukraine so that the conflict would end faster.
Then Putin said: “We can quickly capture Kyiv, but this will entail a huge number of victims.”
He explained that although war has its own rules, it is necessary to save human lives. Lukashenka also stressed that during those events, Ukrainian troops placed MLRS (multiple launch rocket systems) in populated areas, among kindergartens and medical institutions.
“Then the Russian army left that area. They left! But no Zelensky reflected anything there. He actually had no troops there … Therefore, in vain he ascribes to himself a feat that did not exist. Putin withdrew these troops from Kiev. He (Zelensky – ed. ) was sitting in the cellar at that time!” Lukashenka concluded.
